With a splendid repertoire that draws heavily from the rich traditions of West African performance art, Sangea continues to brilliantly redefine what it means to revitalize tradition and in turn captivate a modern audience. Sangea is a diverse West-African performance group made up of 8 members from several countries in Africa, and from Mexico and Canada. The name of the group means female leader and is a common name given to young girls in Liberia. Established in 2012, the group has grown from being a household name amongst several communities within the Edmonton area to becoming a leader in the forward progression of traditional West-African music, dance, poetry, and theatre in its home province and across the country at large.

Sangea will be leading the ParticiParades on July 6th and July 8th at 5:00pm — and they’ll round off the fun with a 20-minute show after each parade!

The Troupe Variety Show changes each performance, so no two viewings will be quite the same.

Tianna the Traveller is back and charging into hosting the Troupe Variety Show! This international stunt woman has been on a very unexpected adventure of late. Things might look a little different now, but you’ll know her by her classic curiosity for what makes people, places, and acts unique – and, of course, by the crack of her whip! Come join Tianna for the Troupe show each weekend where she’ll share with you delightful snippets of entertainment sourced from across the festival and around the globe.

Adopting many personas – from scientist to poet to general fool – an encounter with this multi-chapeau’d performer is sure to bring a smile to your face. Trained as a red-nosed clown at the Manitoulin Conservatory for Creation and Performance, Charlie also teaches juggling, acting, and more to people of all ages.
