Your Guide to StreetFest and The Works 2023
Edmonton’s first flagship Festivals of summer, The Works Art & Design Festival and The Edmonton International Street Performers Festival are teaming up to present 10 days of Variety Performers, Visual Art, Music, Food, and Fun. For 39 years, The Works and StreetFest have made Edmonton a destination to experience exciting and interactive visual artists, designers, musicians, and street performers. After last year’s smashing success, the two festivals are collaborating again to present an uncondensed celebration that highlights the best of what each Festival has to offer.
Our main Festival site is Sir Winston Churchill Square at 99 Street and 102A Avenue. It’s the heart of downtown in Edmonton’s Arts District, right in front of City Hall.
We are open to the public and the Square is wheelchair accessible. Entrance is free and all street performances are in the pass-the-hat tradition.

GETTING HERE AND HOME AGAIN
Parking in the downtown core can be a challenge. Consider travelling with ETS, our official festival transit provider, instead! The LRT and ETS Buses stop near Churchill Square. For transit info call: 311 or 780-442-5311 outside of Edmonton, or go online at www.edmonton.ca/edmonton-transit-system-ets
Paid parking is available at a variety of locations downtown, and we recommend Indigo Edmonton City Centre’s parkade located on 102 A Avenue for convenient parking close to the festival. Alternatively, paid, underground parking is available at the Stanley A. Milner Library, The Citadel Theatre and City Hall. If you’re up for a bit of a walk, there are also a number of surface lots within a few blocks.
Alternatively, Co-op Taxi has a dedicated stand right on site and can drop you off in the immediate vicinity of the action. To book Co-op call 780-425-2525.
Please be aware that there will be testing of the new Valley Line Southeast LRT during Festival hours. Please follow all traffic signals and only cross the tracks in designated areas.
Check out our Information Tent located on the South side of the Square for up to the moment performance schedules and programming information about both Festivals. We have information screens with up-to-date schedules located at the Information Tent and at the Licensed Patio.
WEATHER OR NOT
We are a 99.9% outdoor Festival. Please be sure to double check the weather forecast before you join us on the Square and prepare accordingly. Sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, and comfortable shoes will help make your festival experience awesome. We adjust performance schedules according to the weather conditions and our crowds. Your enjoyment and safety are our first priority. When you arrive at Sir Winston Churchill Square, please go to our Information Tent for the latest updates.
There is a LOT to take in and experience during this year’s Festivals. Check out the amazing visual art installations in and around Churchill Square at any time during Festival hours. Street performance shows start at 11:30 AM and run until 10 PM, when the daily Troupe du Jour variety show is presented in the centre of the Square. Try your hand at visual art or circus performance at The WorksShop or Busker Academy between 11:30 AM and 5:30 PM. Take a guided visual art tour with The Works at 1:00 PM, 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM daily, or check out music and dance performances on the stage in the licensed patio between 5:30 PM and 10 PM. Kids’ World offers shows and activities for the youngest of Festival-goers between 11:30 AM and 5:30 PM. Grab a bite to eat from one of our on-site food vendors and shop at the arts & crafts vendors.
The street performers at the festival are invited to perform for you and they are paid directly by you. They make their living through passing the hat at the end of their shows. Please be generous, reward their incredible hard work and skill, and show your appreciation by putting cash in their hats. Change is available at the Information Tent and in the Licensed Patio.
11:30 AM – 11 PM (last call at 10:15 PM)
The licensed patio is all-ages during all Festival hours. Enjoy a beverage or savour a snack from one of our vendors while you take in the fabulous artists playing on the stage. The artists on the stage (unlike on the Square) are paid by the Festivals, so please consider making a donation to the Festivals to help us to continue bringing you awesome programming.
Festivals can be loud, hot and crowded. This can get very stressful for our non-human friends. Please leave your animals at home when you visit Churchill Square.
There is no smoking allowed anywhere on the Festival site. Please step off Churchill Square to smoke or vape.
MAKE A DONATION
Help keep the awesome programming of both Festivals accessible to everyone. If you are able, please donate at the Information Tent, online here or through the donation bins on site. All donations go directly towards supporting the free-of-charge programming on site.
If you’re coming with a group, ensure all children or others requiring supervision are easily recognizable – matching hats, shirts or wristbands work wonderfully. Daycares, Camp Groups, and parents, take this opportunity to teach children how it works at our Festival; ensure everyone has a few dollars in their pockets to pay the performers for their excellent work.
If you need assistance or have a question, just ask. We’re here to help!
