For over 30 years, professional exhibitionists and eccentric characters from around the world have brought their magic to Sir Winston Churchill Square during the Edmonton Street Performers Festival. Whether they are throwing knives, juggling chainsaws, riding unicycles, breathing fire, cracking whips, cracking jokes or twisting balloons, they challenge all of us to embrace the pure joy of communal, interactive and unconventional entertainment. On a beautiful sunny afternoon or a gentle summer evening in Edmonton, it does not get any better than this.
My thanks go to the festival organizers, volunteers, sponsors and audiences for once again bringing this celebration of playfulness to Albertans of all ages. Welcome everyone, and enjoy the 2017 Edmonton Street Performers Festival!
Welcome to the 2017 Edmonton International Street Performers Festival!
This year, as we mark Canada 150, we have many wonderful opportunities to come together and celebrate everything that makes this such a great country—including the arts and artists that enrich our communities.
Our Government is committed to increasing access to arts and culture for all Canadians. That is why we are proud to support the Edmonton International Street Performers Festival—an event that brings a diverse group of musicians, jugglers, acrobats and more into the streets and squares right in the heart of Edmonton. For more than three decades, this event has given the city’s residents and visitors the chance to enjoy these unforgettable artistic experiences.
As Minister of Canadian Heritage, I would like to thank the organizers, artists and volunteers who dedicated their time and effort to making this year’s event possible. I wish everyone a wonderful festival!
Bienvenue à l’Edmonton International Street Performers Festival!
The Honourable Mélanie Joly
Welcome to StreetFest
Get ready for Fun Times from Eh? To Zed! Bring your friends and family to Sir Winston Churchill Square, July 7-16, for the world’s best street performers and a celebration of Canada 150. This year, we’re proud to say our festival features an overwhelming number of Canadian artists (about 85%) plus, we have a whole bunch of Canadian content for you to enjoy!
There is no ticket required to access Churchill Square for StreetFest. It is you, the audience member, who decides the true value of the performance at the end of each show by making a contribution directly to the artists.
There are miles of smiles along with eternal appreciation that goes out to our Board of Directors. Thanks to the amazing and hardworking volunteers, coordinators and staff for the truly outstanding efforts they contribute to the festival each year. I’d like to thank the City of Edmonton through the Edmonton Arts Council, the Department of Canadian Heritage, and the Province of Alberta through the Alberta Foundation for the Arts for their vital ongoing support to our festival and to all the generous sponsors and supporters.
Special thanks to the Edmonton Community Foundation as well as the City of Edmonton for their kind and generous support of our Canada 150 programming.
On behalf of the world’s best artists, volunteers, board, staff, sponsors and supporters, welcome to the 33rd annual Edmonton StreetFest. May the Festival be filled with laughter, smiles and sunshine and “May Your Hearts And Hats Be Full”.
